PRESS RELEASE
On July 5, 2022, the UNESCO International Centre for Documentary Heritage(hereafter ICDH) signed the MOU with the International Institute for Central Asian Studies(hereafter IICAS) in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, for the research cooperation relating to the discovery and preservation of the Silk Roads Documentary Heritage in Central Asia.
ICDH is the first international organization (UNESCO Category II Centre) in the documentary heritage field.
IICAS is the historical research and academic exchange institute for the Central Asian region.
Upon the MOU, ICDH and IICAS will cooperate with other IICAS member countries, connecting with Central Asia and its culture. They will all involve discovering, preserving, and categorizing the documentary heritage regarding the Silk Road's history, anthropology, and archeology.
Both organizations agreed to execute the roadmap for 2022-2023 as a part of the regional cooperation to preserve the documentary heritage of the Silk Road. In this line, they will cooperate to utilize the documentary heritage in future education and research activities.
- Both will continuously develop joint projects, including expert exchange programmes, common capacity-building programmes, research projects, educational/scientific outcomes sharing, and information networking.
- After the project, they will proceed with the outcomes' inscription as UNESCO Memory of the World. It will help to discover the potential documentary heritage and establish cooperative relations with Central Asian countries.
In the ceremony, Dr. Seungcheol Lee, Acting Secretary-General of ICDH, says, "ICDH will play a role as an international organization in the field of Documentary Heritage and make an opportunity to preserve and utilize historical records; beyond country borders."
