|Tawfik Jelassi appointed Director of the UNESCO International Centre for Documentary Heritage|
With the recommendation of UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, Tawfik Jelassi was appointed Director of UNESCO International Centre for Documentary Heritage on 9 February 2022.
Originally from Tunisia, Mr. Jelassi held office as former Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Information and Communication Technologies in the democratic transition government in Tunisia. He holds a doctorate in information systems from New York University and a postgraduate diploma in organizational computer science from the University of Paris Dauphine, from which he also obtained a master’s degree in computer science applied to management. Mr. Tawfik Jelassi took up his duties as Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information on 5 July 2021 and was appointed a director of UNESCO ICDH on 16 December 2021. Mr. Tawfik Jelassi is responsible for leading UNESCO prorammes on building inclusive knowledge societies, leading digital transformation, strategizing the role of ICT in education, and fostering freedom of expression. ICDH welcomes the opportunity to cooperate with him and the UNESCO headquarter to promote ICDH’s upcoming programmes such as Documentary Heritage Monitoring Support and commemoration of the 30th anniversary for the UNESCO MoW Programme.
